One more time

Back in Madrid for a half day, then I start the trip home tomorrow morning. It’s been great fun Spain, but I can’t wait to be home.

The art walk continues

After yesterday’s visit to the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums, I continued with a trip to the Reina Sofia. The highlight of the museum is, of course, Picasso’s Guernica:

I saw this today

The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch. This alone made the trip to Spain worthwhile.

Lazy as f***

Today was a lazy day. We left the apartment at 3pm to wander around Retiro Park. There are a lot of green lawns and statues as well as art galleries and food stands. There’s even a place to rent boats. The Crystal Palace had some sort of exhibition but I’m not sure if I’d call it art. It looked like things you’d drop off at Goodwill rather than buy.

We met up with a friend of Lisa’s for drinks and, with the weather as mild as it was tonight, we took the long way back to the apartment.

Mad about Madrid

Other than the heat, Madrid is pretty great so far. Today’s high was 88 but the humidity – oy! It’s nasty. Tomorrow will be the same and then it starts cooling down. Just in time for us to go someplace even hotter.

On the plus side, the food and scenery are great. We went to plaza mayor for sangria blanco, then had tapas in Mercado de San Miguel.

Bread, cheese, olives, and beer

Also, I bought a bottle of wine shaped like a lightbulb. Because I could.
